SUYIN Corporation Achieves World’s First UL 2252 Certification for EV AC 80A “Type 1 to NACS” Charging Adapter
Taipei – June 2025 – SUYIN Corporation has become the first company worldwide to receive UL 2252 certification for an electric vehicle (EV) charging adapter that converts SAE J1772 (Type 1) to the emerging J3400 (NACS) connector format. The certification, granted in early June 2025, closely follows the publication of the UL 2252 standard in March and establishes a new benchmark in EV adapter safety and compliance for the North American market.
The newly certified adapter is designed for 80 A continuous current operation at up to 250 VAC and meets UL’s stringent safety, thermal, and mechanical performance criteria. Compact in form and highly durable, the adapter enables reliable charging compatibility between established Type 1 infrastructure and the increasingly adopted NACS vehicle interface.
“Achieving the first UL 2252 certification for a J1772 to NACS adapter underlines SUYIN’s commitment to forward-thinking, safe, and user-ready solutions,” says Astrid Huang, CEO of SUYIN Corporation. “This isn’t just a compliance achievement—it’s a step forward for EV users and industry confidence in interoperability.”
Certified Performance, Compact Design
The adapter underwent extensive testing for insulation integrity, thermal behavior, and mechanical resilience to meet U.S. requirements. With a reinforced housing, IP-rated sealing, and robust contact systems, it is designed for use in demanding public and private charging environments. Its compact dimensions—just 87 mm in length—also contribute to a user-friendly, ergonomic experience.
To ensure both safety and durability, SUYIN focused on a carefully balanced selection of materials and contact design principles. While the development process involved extensive internal validation and prototype iteration, the team has opted to limit the public discussion of technical trade-offs to avoid giving competitors insights into critical design strategies.
“UL Solutions and SUYIN collaborated constructively throughout the certification process”, adds Astrid Huang, CEO of SUYIN Corp. “We appreciate their technical partnership and shared vision of engineering safety with excellence and trust.”
A Standard to Shape the EV Landscape
UL 2252 defines safety parameters for AC EV adapters, including electrical insulation, mechanical durability, fire risk mitigation, and long-term environmental performance. As the first company certified under this standard, SUYIN demonstrates leadership in delivering fully tested and regulatory-compliant charging accessories as NACS adoption accelerates in North America.
“Adapters used in electric vehicles (EVs) must accommodate various charging specifications, making safety a top priority. The UL 2252 standard was developed to address the safety and performance of adapters used in EV charging systems. SUYIN selected UL Solutions to perform comprehensive testing and evaluation of its charging adapter. Achieving UL 2252 certification signifies that SUYIN has met its compliance objectives and underscores the product’s safety, as demonstrated by the widely recognized UL Mark,” said Jonathan T.H. Chen, the regional vice president, Taiwan of UL Solutions.
